[진태영] 대중교통 요금이 수송부문 온실가스 배출에 미치는 영향: 우리나라 광역지자체 패널 자료 분석

영문초록: This study investigates the conditional associations between public transportation fare changes on
greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the transport sector. Using panel data from 17 metropolitan regions in Korea for the
period 2012?2023, a fixed-effects model is employed. We examine the effect of public transport fares on private vehicle
travel distance with relation on GHG emissions, and examine the environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) hypothesis. Bus fare
shows a positive conditional association with private vehicle travel distance, while fuel prices show a negative association.
Regions and periods with higher private vehicle travel distance tend to exhibit greater GHG emissions. The EKC
hypothesis was not statistically supported, as no significant inverted U ?shaped pattern was found. The study highlights
the importance of integrating demand-side fare policies with supply-side measures to achieve effective emission
reductions.
